Interview of StoneBridge and Krista Richards on DiscoverSD

Posted On : 4/11/2012 by Michelle Dederko

On Saturday, April 14th, the Hillcrest club will heat up with Grammy-nominated DJ StoneBridge headlining and a special guest performance from Krista Richards. DJ Rich B and Helium will warm up the crowds, as Green Smart Living gives away free products from their eco-conscious line, all kicking off at 9pm.

Chances are you’ve danced to StoneBridge before. This Stockholm DJ has been in the game since the early 80’s, remixing international acts and top artists like Lenny Kravitz, Missy Elliott, Usher, Sia, Taio Cruz, and Ne-Yo. Most recently, StoneBridge scored a global number one hit as co-writer of Jason Darulo’s “Don’t Wanna Go Home”. He’s continued to release club anthems, tapping into key collaborations with artists like Krista Richards. Krista Richards lends her talents through her smooth, sexy voice that can be best heard on the dance track “Tonight” remixed by StoneBridge. Now both stars are headed to Eden on Saturday night, ready to pump up the club to its next level of electronic superstardom.

We talked to StoneBridge and Krista Richards for the inside scoop on what they’ve been up to and what we can expect this Saturday at EDEN.

StoneBridge

DiscoverSD: How and when did you begin producing music?

StoneBridge: I come from a musical home so when I started DJ-ing, I felt a connection with music creation and brought a massive synth with me to some gigs to play along (not a very successful idea, haha). Next, I and some other Stockholm DJs started to do re-edits of big hits, then we got the studio together and one thing lead to another. I guess you can say I started on a professional level around 1987.

DSD: We can’t wait to party with you at Eden for EDMEN on April 14th. What can we expect to experience during your show?

StoneBridge: It will be a fantastic party with good vibes and no boring underground instrumentals. I am a song man at heart, but I always surprise people as I love energy and slamming beats.

DSD: How do you classify your style of music?

StoneBridge: Not a huge fan of tags, but I suppose big room house music is the closest. I do play remixed classics too, so not all on the bleeding edge.

DSD: What have been your greatest professional achievements so far?

StoneBridge: I think my first album as I proved that I was an artist as well as remixer and producer. The Grammy nomination for my Ne-Yop mix was a big one, too.

DSD: What new projects are you working on in the coming year?

StoneBridge: I have about 9 tracks in progress with Crystal Waters, several projects with Krista Richards and one with Jonathan Mendelsohn, so it will be a vintage year for me. I will also release an updated version of ‘Put Em High’ with Cedric Gervais.

DSD: What are your hobbies and passions, outside the music industry?

StoneBridge: Films, espresso and my vintage Benz!

Krista Richards

DiscoverSD: How and when did you begin producing music?

Krista Richards: I began writing dance music 13 years ago with my brother, Nathan Richards, in our mother’s garage, and we had a live act called äion.

DSD: We can’t wait to party with you at Eden for EDMEN on April 14th. What can we expect to experience during your show?

Krista Richards: StoneBridge always brings amazing energy to the stage and knows exactly what the crowd wants. I get to do my favorite thing, sing my heart out, and connect with the audience front and center. Every crowd, and every night is different — what ends up happening will greatly depend on the vibe we create with the people there. I have it on good authority there will be some amazing people out, so expect just about anything.

DSD: How do you classify your style of music?

Krista Richards: As an EDM vocalist, I have the luxury of writing vocals for various sub-genres. I tend to gravitate towards house and progressive house mainly because I have a very soulful style, and house calls for that. Though, I have several projects going in other genres as well.

DSD: What have been your greatest professional achievements so far?

Krista Richards: Working with StoneBridge is absolutely amazing. He is so supportive of me as an individual and as an artist. Having my music featured on some pretty amazing compilations like Ministry of Sound, and EDX No Excuses is another accomplishment I am proud of.

DSD: What new projects are you working on in the coming year?

Krista Richards: I have a lot of projects on the horizon. I have an upcoming release with StoneBridge and Chris Kaeser called “Love Me,” and another with Jaxx Da Fishworks called “Tomorrowland”. We will be debuting both of these tracks at EDMen this Saturday. I’m looking forward to seeing how the crowd reacts.

DSD: What are your hobbies and passions, outside the music industry?

Krista Richards: I’m passionate about health, nutrition, and living life to the fullest. I follow a plant-based diet. I practice yoga, meditate, dance, travel, spend time in nature, enjoy delicious meals, and spend quality time with my family and friends.
